Conservation Lands and Resources (CLR) is a new department that consolidates similar conservation functions currently in two departments: the Natural Resources Parks and Recreation Department and the Office of Sustainability and Conservation.\ \ CLR is committed to the stewardship and enhancement of our County conservation lands, as well as facilitating development in alignment with the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan (SDCP), Multi-Species Conservation Plan (MSCP), Board policies, and other regulatory frameworks
We employ science-based conservation strategies and foster public engagement through education and recreation while maintaining the ecological and cultural integrity of Indigenous and historic-era sites, mountain parks, trails, ranches, and other County conservation lands
The department oversees 250,000 acres of County owned and managed mountain parks, ranches, and other conservation areas; 25 trailheads and over 150 miles of trails; natural and cultural heritage preservation and development compliance; environmental education and programming; and native plant nursery, restoration, and invasive species control services.\ \ For more information about this department visit the link below:\ https://www.pima.gov/3209/Conservation-Lands-Resources.html\ \

## Duties/Responsibilities As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics

- Plans, organizes and directs assigned functions and operational activities of the Conservation Lands and Resources Department under the direction of the Director, and performs statutory requirements in the absence of the Director; - Provides management and supervision to department managers and other employees within assigned areas of responsibility; - Drafts and maintains administrative and operational procedures, subject to Director approval, to ensure compliance with County, state and federal ordinances, laws and regulations; - Coordinates the development and preparation of department budget and exercises management control over departmental expenditures; - Analyzes departmental procedures and organizational structures in relation to operational needs and develops plans and processes to increase efficiency and cost-effectiveness; - Prepares departmental reports, recommendations and studies to evaluate effectiveness of department services recommending corrective action when appropriate; - Represents the Director and/or the department at formal and informal meetings; - Plans, develops and implements staff training programs; - Reviews and analyzes proposed state and federal legislation for potential impact on department operations and processes and provides recommendations; - Responds to county and public inquiries and performs community relations activities; - Establishes and maintains liaison with federal, state, and local governmental agencies; - Represents the department with the m dia and the public if directed to do so
## Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelors or higher degree from an accredited college or university with a major in public or business administration, natural resource management, conservation science, biology, cultural resources management, historic preservation, parks and recreation administration or a related field as determined by the County Administrator at the time of recruitment and four years of supervisorial and/or managerial experience.\ \ (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
