The Montgomery County School Board, Virginia, is now accepting applications for a Special Education Educational Interpreter for the 2024-2025 School Year.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Educational Interpreter's function is to interpret spoken information in the educational setting for a student with deafness or who is hard of hearing. Other duties may be assigned when not providing interpreting services. The interpreter reports to the Supervisor of Special Education and the Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for students for which they are assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hold a valid and current VQAS Level II (transliterating or interpreting) or equivalent from another state OR a minimum EIPA score of 3.0 including a passing score on the EIPA written test
- Interpreters hired with a VQAS Level II, EPIA Level 3.0 or the equivalent shall have two years from the date of hire to reach the required qualifications
- Have effective written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Have knowledge of resources and techniques needed to integrate special education students into the least restrictive environment
- Have experience and expertise in using technology in education
- Experience in fostering an inclusive learning environment
- Have experience or working familiarity with Google Drive for instruction, collaboration and course work
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and families
- Demonstrate the ability to be dependable and punctual
PREFERENCE GIVEN FOR:
- A valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III
- A passing score on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) written test along with a minimum of a Level 3.5 on the EIPA performance test
- Any other state qualification or national certification (excluding Certificate of Deaf Interpretation) recognized by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH) as equivalent to or exceeding the VQAS Level III
- Experience or have working familiarity with virtual education and dual enrollment
- Experienced as an educational interpreter
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
SALARY: $31,017.72 - $61,603.36 annually, with benefits; based on VQAS Level with benefits and commensurate with experience; prorated to start date
