COMPENSATION: Certified School-Based Support Staff Compensation Guide (Starting $49,883)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Maintains current knowledge of and supports the curriculum through collection development

2. Demonstrates knowledge of the schools diverse student population through the creation of library programming and collecting resources that represent the needs of diverse learners

3. Comprehensive knowledge of resources:

4. Within the librarys collection,

5. Utilizes a variety of online and electronic resources,

6. Skilled in accessing information

7. Actively seeks relevant resources within/outside of the district; including working with the public library to connect students and staff to free resources.

8. Strives to be familiar with current and classic literature and promotes books, reading, and a love of learning

9. Demonstrates genuine care and respect for students and staff, and uses praise and positive reinforcement

10. Establishes a culture of learning by creating an environment that is inviting, flexible, attractive, and conducive to learning

11. Manages library procedures and physical space through established guidelines to ensure safety and optimize flexibility and accessibility

12. Communicates clears standards for student conduct, monitors behavior, and responds appropriately to student misbehavior

13. When teaching, directions and procedures are communicated clearly and effectively

14. Librarian/ Media Specialist demonstrates and models the effective use of technology and resource tools available to staff and students

15. Consistently uses open-ended and probing questions to guide students inquiry and to help students to think critically as they formulate pertinent questions about their research topics

16. Engages students in learning through the recommendation of resources that complement the content learning goals

17. Models flexibility and responsiveness through the employment of diverse strategies to ensure successful learning for all students

18. Strives to support instructional goals and assessments by providing the necessary resources, technology, and instructional services that are available to support these goals

19. Actively plans with teachers and groups of teachers in planning and implementing learning activities that integrate the use of multiple resources, the development of research skills, and various literacies

20. Cultivates and maintains a collection of library and technology resources by regularly assessing the relevancy of, advocating for, purchasing, and weeding resources

21. Maintains the library catalog

22. Maintains appropriate records of library materials

23. Consistently provides technology in an equitable manner and consistently works with the Information Technology department to ensure continuous access to technology for all stakeholders

24. Remains current in educational technologies and assists stakeholders with the use of these technologies

25. Engages in reflective practices, evaluating the effectiveness of services, resources, instructional strategies, and facilities to ensure that they are meeting the goals of the library program

26. Actively promotes the use of the library, library programming, new resources, and services

27. Solicits feedback and input from the schools staff and community to improve instruction, programs, and services

28. Seeks continual growth and professional development opportunities

29. Manages library personnel by:

30. Establishing expectations that motivate and guide support staff to perform with initiative and independence

31. Consistently delegates responsibility and provides training, supervision, and support

32. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issues

33. Provide a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and community

34. Perform responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner

35. Perform other related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Education / Certificate
1.Minimum of Bachelors degree

2. Current and valid Arizona Department of Education teaching certification with a school

Library media specialist endorsement

3. Current and valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

Experience

1. A minimum of one year of classroom teaching experience.

2. Working knowledge of school technology/media equipment

3. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with staff, students, and parents.

4. Ability to participate in professional development to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to be an educational leader

5. Displays excellent organizational skills.

6. Ability to be self directed

7. Experience in problem-solving, adept at troubleshooting

8. Ability to be adaptable, flexible and willing to change

9. Able to manage high stress situations and multiple simultaneous projects/tasks

Communication Skills

1. Strong writing, literacy, and communication skills; uses effective communication strategies to interact with a variety of audiences

2. Bilingual communication is beneficial

Computer Skills

1. Technical experience with Google Suite

2. Technical experience with Microsoft Office Suite

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
