Job DescriptionPOSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Multilingual Teacher of Record (MLTOR) to support multilingual learners in developing their English language proficiency while maintaining academic excellence. The ideal candidate will be committed to ensuring that all students, regardless of their language background, have access to high-quality instruction that meets their linguistic and academic needs. KIPP Indy’s MLTOR is responsible for providing specialized instruction, managing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) services, and collaborating with general education teachers to support multilingual learners.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of student learning and effective teaching strategies for Emergent Bilingual Students
- Design and deliver effective, differentiated instruction to multilingual learners that aligns with state standards and is tailored to their English language proficiency levels.
- Develop and implement individualized ILP plans, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Regularly assess and monitor student progress in both English language acquisition and academic content, using data to inform instruction.
- Provide appropriate scaffolding, accommodations, and modifications to ensure access to grade-level curriculum for multilingual learners.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate language development into content instruction, adapting lessons to meet the diverse needs of multilingual learners.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to create an inclusive learning environment that supports linguistic and cultural diversity.
- Advocate for the academic and social-emotional needs of multilingual learners within the school community.
- Build strong relationships with students and their families, maintaining ongoing communication to support language development and academic success.
- Stay current with best practices in language acquisition and culturally responsive teaching.
- Participate in case conferences and maintain accurate records, ensuring that all documentation related to multilingual learners complies with state and federal requirements.
- Use formative assessment data to adjust instruction, ensuring that all multilingual learners are progressing toward proficiency.
- Actively work with academic coaches to continuously improve instructional practices, embrace feedback, and implement strategies for professional growth.
- Take ownership of your professional development by seeking out learning opportunities and reflecting on your teaching practices.
EXPECTATIONS
- Arrive at school by 8:10 a.m.
- Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including two weeks during the summer, weekly school-wide meetings, and ongoing racial equity trainings
- Provide time in the evening, by phone, for questions and concerns that students and/or families may have regarding education-related issues that could not be handled during the school day
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings
- Maintain open and effective communication with all staff, contributing to a collaborative/ supportive work environment.
- Meet all expectations and requirements as stated in the KIPP Indy Employee Handbook
- Willing to meet the varied and constant needs of the students and staff at KIPP Indy

- Valid Indiana teaching license with an English Learner (EL) certification or eligibility (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in education, TESOL, or a related field (required).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching multilingual learners (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of language acquisition theories and instructional strategies for English learners (required).
- Experience in developing and implementing ILPs (preferred).
- Commitment to the KIPP Indy mission and the Indianapolis community (required).
- Pass a criminal background check (Required)
Additional Information
Licensed teacher starting at $50,000
Salary is commensurate with experience and includes a highly competitive benefits package. Opportunities for performance-based bonuses are also available.
