About the Job
As a Technology Summer Team Member, you will play a vital role working alongside one of our many Technology Teams. In this role, you’ll utilize your skillset to help develop and enhance our in-house, industry-leading technology. Our technology allows our clients to succeed with industry-first applications, tools and support. You’ll also work on a summer-long project where you’ll collaborate alongside students with backgrounds & passions in software development, databases and infrastructures, cybersecurity, project management, and more!
The Data Engineering & Analytics team at UWM designs, develops, and maintains database systems to ensure data integrity, performance, and availability, supporting the organization's data-driven initiatives and business needs.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Coordinate and facilitate the requirements, analysis, design, and development of reports and application database code as directed by leadership.
- Adhere to established development and report presentation standards while improving efficiency and enhancing data storage and usability.
- Collaborate with customers to identify and document requirements, data challenges, and support ad-hoc and what-if analysis.
- Maintain high organization to track report requirements, deliverables, priorities, and handle concurrent projects effectively.
- Independently manage SQL development assignments from start to finish with minimal supervision, demonstrating strong teamwork skills and the ability to quickly learn business processes.
- Identify potential problems proactively and communicate or respond appropriately.
- Establish delivery timelines with clients, maintain communication about progress, and notify involved parties of any schedule impacts.
- Perform and troubleshoot technical tasks necessary for successful development and testing sessions.
- Demonstrate basic testing skills by identifying and documenting test cases that ensure coding meets business and technical requirements.
- Participate in the development and implementation of processes that improve efficiency and enhance data storage and usability.
- Participate in cohort project with other Summer Team Members, developing and designing team specific tasks, executing project work, and delivering progress presentations.
- Participate in project focused Scrum rituals (standup, refinement, planning, retrospective).
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2025 or 2026 (current junior/senior status).
- The ability to work Monday thru Friday, 40-hours a week, fully on-site in Pontiac, MI from the end of May to mid-August.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and excellent time-management skills.
- Ability to both thrive in a team environment and effectively work independently to complete assignments on time.
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to receive and apply feedback.
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills while being comfortable in a fast-moving environment.
- Ability to multitask and demonstrate adaptability and forward thinking in the face of technological or organizational change.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate complex technical issues and solutions in a clear, simple, and understandable way.
- Foundational knowledge of ETL and data architecture principles.
- Comfortable collaborating in code/design reviews and providing constructive feedback.
- Experience with executing and performance tuning SQL queries for either Applications or Reports.
Nice to have:
- Work examples of prior projects or experience related to this role.
- Prior experience performing activities related to relevant IT roles, such as: Database Developer.
