The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow.

As a member of our team your primary responsibility will be to contribute to a variety of research, development, and characterization projects to help understand and mitigate biological threats faced in field-forward and clinical environments, including emerging infectious diseases.
AS A POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW YOU WILL:
- Participate in both small and large teams and have the opportunity to work in a variety of laboratory and analytical environments
- Develop and execute an individual research project motivated by the most difficult challenges facing our sponsors
- Write technical reports and publications, and publish/present results to the scientific community
- Communicate key findings both internally across teams and externally to the broader research community while contributing on diverse and high-performing teams
- Leverage novel findings to advance mitigation strategies to reduce the impact of infectious disease on public and warfighter health, including development of detection and surveillance strategies
- Contribute to a strong team in the design and execution of interdisciplinary efforts using cutting edge methods and technologies
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you meet some or all of the following:
•PhD in Science or Engineering in a relevant field.
•Strong technical background (including laboratory experience, if applicable) and record of publications.
•The ability to write clearly.
•Strong written and verbal communications skills.
•The ability to manage multiple simultaneous assignments and changing priorities.
•Methodical, meticulous work practices and excellent interpersonal, logical reasoning, and organizational skills.
•The ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment with scientists and engineers representing different backgrounds, skills, and experience levels.
•Knowledge of statistical data analysis methods and experimental design
Security: Are able to obtain a final Secret level clearance. If you are selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
Special Working Conditions: Approximately two weeks of travel per year. Work in Biosafety Level 2 laboratories.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. Minimum Rate:$83,200 AnnuallyMaximum Rate:$152,000 Annually
