Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Marketing Intern to join the Harper Perennial team. Harper Perennial is a paperback imprint within the Harper Group that publishes a selection of paperback reprints from our flagship Harper imprint, and a vibrant line of paperback originals including wide-ranging voices, personal and critical essays, contemporary and historical fiction, upmarket women's fiction and romance, and psychological thrillers and mysteries. Our authors include Roxane Gay, Kate Baer, Jayne Allen, Eliza Clark, Charles Soule, Caitlin Moran, Sarina Bowen, Kate White, Lisa Barr, Ann Patchett, Louise Erdrich, Barbara Kingsolver, Terry Pratchett, Harper Lee, Aldous Huxley, Howard Zinn, Sylvia Plath, Richard Wright, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the book publishing industry, working closely with the Harper Perennial marketing team to help reach readers and generate interest in our books. In addition to weekly intern programming, the intern will have weekly one-on-one time with their supervisor to discuss ongoing tasks and responsibilities as well as the intern’s long-term career goals. The ideal candidate has an interest in book marketing, is well-versed in social media platforms and trends, has strong communication and organizational skills, is curious and enthusiastic, and a thoughtful reader.
Responsibilities
- Provide general administrative assistance including ordering galleys, e-galleys, and promotional items
- Provide support on title marketing campaigns as directed
- Coordinate mailings to booksellers and social media influencers
- Review e-Galley requests on NetGalley and Edelweiss+, approving or declining, as appropriate
- Create engaging posts for our imprint’s official social media channels including taking quality photographs, writing dynamic copy, creating Instagram Reels and TikToks, and keeping abreast of trends.
- Research influencers and social media accounts for key campaign outreach, particularly across Bookstagram and BookTok
- Write copy for marketing letters and select advertising materials including, but not limited to, Facebook and Instagram advertising campaigns
- Submit requests for advertising assets and campaigns to Ad/Promo and Digital Advertising teams, respectively, and routing final materials for approvals
Qualifications
- Must have excellent organization skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Must be well-versed in social media platforms for marketing purposes.
- Candidates who are available to work in a full-time capacity in 2025 or 2026 are eligible for this internship; open to rising seniors, recent graduates, master’s students, or entry level candidates with up to two years of work experience.
- Candidates must be available to work in our NYC office from Monday – Thursday for a total of 28 hours per week, from June 2 – August 7, 2025. Compensation for this internship is $18 per hour.
