DUTIES:Primary responsibilities include:The Accountant II performs a variety of independent, specialized accounts receivable support functions for the Office of Budget and Finance. This position is responsible for fiscal oversight of UTK/UTSI departmental accounts receivable (excludes student accounts managed by the Bursar and sponsored projects managed by FMC). This position guides departments through university fiscal policy, best practice, and Fair Debt Collection Practices to manage outstanding accounts receivable and ensure compliance. The position develops, enhances, and maintains AR training materials as well as delivers training on ERP AR module functionality. The Accountant II onboards units to use the ERP Receivables module and reviews aged receivables to mitigate bad debt risks. This position recommends opportunities for process improvements related to data extraction, maintenance, reporting and use of DASH AR. This position coordinates year-end departmental AR reporting and booking of accrual entries, as needed, for the campus. Organizes and completes structured assignments according to priorities and deadlines. Cross trains with the General Ledger Accountant to assist with managing and settling central campus clearing account balances. Evaluates, documents, and implements solutions from established options and procedures. The position requires interaction with many academic and financial areas across the campus to gather, analyze, and verify information.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or directly related field with 3-4 years of experience in professional accounting, finance or a directly related field.This position requires experience in using Microsoft Office products to prepare spreadsheets, databases, and word processing documents. Experience with Oracle Fusion Receivable and/or Collections and general knowledge of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act are a plus. The successful candidate must also have strong organizational and problem solving skills, strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and to manage multiple projects and facilitate successful and timely completion of projects with minimal supervision. Ability to provide excellent customer service to answer standard questions or provide instructions as well as the ability to conceptualize, plan and organize multiple assignments effectively to meet changing priorities and deadlines. A working knowledge of university fiscal policies is preferred.2-3 years in higher education is preferred.
