New Student Programs goal is to ensure a seamless transition process for incoming students to the University of Oklahoma. In collaboration with departments across campus, New Student Programs welcomes students to the OU community and connects them to resources, provides opportunities to find community among their peers, and equips students with tools to be successful throughout their time on campus and beyond.
About the Assistant Director for Transition Programs position:
Reporting to the Director of New Student Programs, the Assistant Director for Transition Programs is responsible for fostering a commitment to student success by actively developing, implementing, and maintain programs and services that enrich student learning, build and maintain a strong sense of community, and support the social and personal development of transfer students at the University of Oklahoma.
The position provides leadership, program development, administration, and programming for Transition Programs. This includes the Transfer Leadership Class, transfer track for Camp Crimson, developing online orientation modules, implementing a peer mentor program, supporting transfer student organizations, and other new transfer-specific initiatives. This position also has a focus on transition for first-year students, specifically through Crimson Commitment and Class Council.
Additionally, this role will supervise the Transition Programs Coordinator (1.0 FTE) and a graduate assistant (0.5 FTE). Additional supervision may include two additional graduate assistants at peak times throughout the summer months.
Specific duties include:
Fostering relationships with student, staff, faculty, and community partners.
Administrating and planning of student programs and services and their delivery.
Overseeing the overall administrative operations and delivery of student programs and services including supporting the planning and execution of transfer-specific components of Camp Crimson events, overseeing and managing the schedule for Transfer Leadership Class, and developing Transfer Programs schedule and events.
Assisting in selection of transfer scholarship award recipients.
Providing budgetary oversight for program area and supporting sponsorship efforts
Supervising program staff, including hiring, firing, training and evaluating performance.
Planning program development, conducting needs assessments and evaluating program effectiveness.
Preparing reports, training materials, and other program documentation, directives and communications.
Interpreting policies and procedures and resolving problems.
Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and University policies.
Making a variety of presentations and conducting workshops, seminars, classes, and other special programs for students.
Performing various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
