The Idaho State Police (ISP) has a current opening for a POST Training Coordinator 2 with in Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) in District 5, Pocatello.
Incumbents in this position need a strong criminal justice foundation to deal effectively with issues uniquely related to officer performance and equipment. Incumbents must be well versed in the law enforcement profession and have knowledge of patrol procedures, detention procedures, correction officer procedures, and acceptable administrative practice. Incumbents must possess strong written and verbal communication skills and have experience evaluating law enforcement training. Incumbents must also have good knowledge of problem solving and conflict resolution. Must pass an extensive background investigation and polygraph test. - POST Regional Training Coordinators are liaisons responsible for anywhere from 25 to 35 agencies within a designated geographical area. Incumbents are expected to work with limited supervision;
- Maintain contact with each agency on a regular basis;
- Routinely interact and collaborate with POST Administration and headquarters personnel;
- Monitor and assess law enforcement programs for compliance with POST standards;
- Distribute training announcements and updates;
- Meet with criminal justice officials to assess regional in-service training needs;
- Provide support and services for officers regarding standards and certifications;
- Review and approve/deny course work for law enforcement training;
- Schedule in-service training and facilities;
- Coordinate with in and out -of-state instructors and other training providers;
- Observe POST certified instructors and monitor classes for quality control;
- Issue certificates of completion to students in POST instructor courses;
- Review and approve/deny instructor expenses and reimbursements;
- Instruct classes in areas of expertise;
- Administer certification exams to challenge applicants and academy recruits;
- Establish priorities and travel schedule;
- Evaluate applications for in-service training and coach applicants;
- Approve and track all in-service law enforcement and related training;
- Approve, enter and track training hours and payment of tuition fees and costs of training;
- Interpret, explain and apply IDAPA rules;
- Write articles and prepare reports;
- Maintain the POST regional webpage;
- Maintain liaison and provide consultation to city, county and state agency, law enforcement advisory boards and various local committees;
- Respond to inquiries regarding IDAPA and POST rules and standards;
- Review, research and recommend solutions to remedy sensitive issues/complaints and resolve conflicts
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:
- At least five (5) years’ current or prior experience as a POST certified law enforcement officer (or other state/federal equivalent);
- At least three (3) years’ experience as a certified law enforcement instructor;
- Preparing, delivering and evaluating law enforcement training;
- Establishing relationships and providing consultations to a wide variety of municipal, county, state, and local law enforcement agencies and community organizations;
- Ensuring standards compliance for organizational training programs;
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
- Effective supervisory practices, problem solving, and conflict resolution;
- Methods and theories of adult learning and effective application of that knowledge.
