Position Description
The Field Engineer at PrePass will apply a broad and in-depth working knowledge of site construction and electronics to various assignments. You will utilize technical concepts, practices, and procedures to design site layouts, test system networks, and RF communications. Working closely with construction crews and state roadway engineers, you will be instrumental in the successful deployment of PrePass technologies. This role requires a hands-on approach, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and network operating problems, as well as working with C.A.D. and technical manuals. You will also be responsible for obtaining necessary permits and contracts for construction projects, ensuring compliance and safety standards are met. The ideal candidate will thrive under tight deadlines, working independently while effectively managing multiple vendors, customers, and internal teams.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network operating problems using basic and specialized test equipment.
- Collaborate with roadway contractors and state permitting offices on construction projects.
- Utilize C.A.D. and technical manuals to design and evaluate system layouts.
- Maintain knowledge of major road closure procedures and coordinate accordingly.
- Take corrective action as needed, interfacing with vendors, carriers, clients, and staff to ensure a safe work environment.
- Use standard hand and power tools for installation and maintenance.
- Maintain work order documentation, technical schematics, and diagrams.
- Work with states, vendors, and customers to obtain necessary permits for construction projects.
- Obtain contracts and insurance certificates from subcontractors.
- Collaborate with engineering and software teams to diagnose, test, and identify opportunities for improved performance and cost savings in system design.
- Travel as required (up to 50% domestic travel), with the remaining time spent on administrative and office work.
Requirements
Required
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience with a broad range of roadway and construction projects.
- Basic knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (M.U.T.C.D.).
- Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service orientation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
- Commitment to quality and personal ethics.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be willing to travel up to 50%.
- Must be currently eligible to work in the United States.
- Must consent to and successfully clear all required pre-employment screenings (background and substance abuse).
Preferred
- Experience in construction management or highway construction management.
- Experience with Weigh in Motion Scale systems.
- Knowledge of Electrical Engineering.
Working Conditions
- Frequently works in outdoor environments, which may include considerable bending, stooping, crawling, and lifting (40-60 lbs.).
