Describe the team and role. What will this person be doing? Will sit on the Executive Communications team. This role is niche within executive comms. One of their responsibilities within their group is the annual report. This is produced as a corporate communication. Used to be a coffee table book of lots of financial information, as well as info that could appeal to the broadest range of policy owners. Goes out to somewhere north of 3.5M people. Opportunity to reinforce the value NM provides and their purchase decision to go with Northwestern Mutual. This project manager will assist the hiring manager in producing this annual report. They won’t be writing it but will be doing a lot of the behind the scenes work. This person determines who is policy owner, who isn't, determines logistics of who will get emailed, who won’t, sets up emails, promotes it to the field and employees, and notifies the board. They’ll vet it through law and compliance. Ordering paper, calculating budgetary numbers in advance. Working with vendors. Managing tabulation process to determine who returned proxy requests in the report. Troubleshooting, managing deadlines.

The Annual Report and Proxy effort is central to communicating to those clients about the value we provide (annual report) and essential to maintaining the Board of Trustees that oversee the company (proxy). This over-six-month long yearly project is complex, involving digital and print content development and design, extensive review, data gathering, logistics, budgeting, vendor management, publishing, distribution, promotion and more. The Annual Report and Proxy project assistant will work beside the project lead to ensure the project stays on track, facilitating clear communication across contributors, keeping tasks on schedule, resolving issues, finetuning processes, and performing quality control. The ideal candidate will have at least several years of professional experience in successful project support, light project management, business communications, and problem solving. They will also be an organized, reliable, resourceful self-starter, ready to jump in on unfamiliar tasks, propose troubleshooting solutions, and confident communicating to new contacts, all while maintaining a high standard of professionalism. Close collaboration with project partners across and outside Northwestern Mutual is central to this role, so good people skills and relationship building are a must. Also, since this project has many moving parts that require rapid response, solid PC and MS Office proficiency is needed.
