Highland Middle School
6th Grade Girls’ Assistant Volleyball Coaches (2 positions) up to 1.0 FTE
Fall 2024
JOB SUMMARY:
To provide knowledge, motivation, and leadership in an activity in which the student can excel to full potential while competing in an atmosphere that adds to total education including physical well-being, moral character, and social and mental development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Instruct athletes regarding techniques, rules, and safety practices of the sport.
Develops and organizes practice programs.
Schedule and conduct practices according to agreed-upon schedules. Practice time for each sport is 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Supervise athletes from the scheduled beginning of the practice or game until the last athlete is picked up, knowing where all participants are at all times.
Supervise athletes on bus trips to other schools.
Promote the entire interscholastic program of the school and direct the program in harmony with the total school program.
Set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct including respecting and supporting contest officials.
Foster among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community.
Promote a healthy lifestyle for student-athletes.
Assist the athletic director in ensuring that lists of all players eligible for athletic contests are prepared and maintained under the rules of the Mead School District Athletic Policies and Procedures.
Ensure that all athletes have completed and submitted all required documentation, including the medical insurance coverage form, and have undergone and passed any required medical examinations before the regular practice season begins.
Communicate with parents regarding team rules and athletic department guidelines.
Know and understand the student-athlete handbook.
Follow all rules within the Mead School District Athletic Policies and Procedures.
Adhere to all safety laws and district policies.
Follow the injuries, care, and prevention procedures as documented in the Mead School District Athletic Policies and Procedures.
Complete and Submit accident reports for any injury to the school principal or designee.
Recognize and adhere to any athlete’s health plans.
Provide equal opportunities to all athletes as per the student nondiscrimination policy.
Perform other related duties as assigned by District Administrators or the Athletic Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be 19 or older for Assistant Coach and 21 or older for Head Coach per WIAA rules.
Must have current First Aid/CPR certification or be able to acquire it by the start of the season.
Type II Driver’s License, preferred.
Understand the activity/sport, its safety practices, techniques, rules, and progression of skill development.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Demonstrate a positive attitude toward students and the ability to motivate them toward developing a successful program.
Be able to consistently meet schedule responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities.
Ability to plan practices and events and organize all the necessary materials and persons to carry out the activity.
Ability to work with students, colleagues, parents, and officials in a positive, professional, and equitable manner.
DESIRED CRITERIA:
Previous coaching experience at the Secondary level.

The Salary Range for 6th Grade Assistant Volleyball Coaches is Min $1,356.00 - Max $2,315.00 per contract. Documented paid coaching experience from public and private schools (middle school, high school, or collegiate level), in and out of state, will be used in determining salary schedule placement. Any employee who works any extra days after the last regularly scheduled GSL contest for authorized playoff or extended activities or equivalent will receive a post-season pay stipend
Employees who are not employed in other positions within the district will accrue 1 hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked. Employees who are not also employed in other benefit-qualifying positions with the District and who work 630 hours within a school year will become benefit-eligible for the remainder of the school year. Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability.
