Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC) is a progressive electric utility, member-owned cooperative serving Southside Virginia. MEC is seeking a motivated individual to fill the position of Payroll Accountant in our Chase City Headquarters.
The position is fast paced requiring multi-tasking skills while providing excellent customer service to Cooperative employees both in-person and over the phone. The successful candidate will administer payroll, analyze and review all payroll data from entry of time through process of payment, maintain data for accuracy and consistency, reconcile general ledger accounts, file tax reports, and assist employees with payroll questions.
The individual in this position must possess and maintain advanced knowledge of payroll accounting and labor law. Must have a thorough working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and must be analytical. Must be able to handle a wide range of projects and routine tasks simultaneously.
Must have the ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with Members, other employees, and the general public. Must always treat others respectfully and in a professional manner in support of the Cooperative's strong commitment to outstanding customer service.
Must satisfactorily pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings, participant in a drug-free workplace and have quality work ethic and safety record.

A bachelor's degree in accounting or relevant discipline is required, and CPP or FPC preferred. Three years of experience in accounting procedures with payroll experience is required; preferably fully automated function experience. Candidates possessing additional years of experience in related fields may substitute for a portion of the educational requirement. A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted when competency in the role is demonstrated.
