Title: Accounting Assistant
Department: MN Business Operations
Reports To: Manager, Business Operations; 927 W Broadway
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Compensation: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
Position Summary & Primary Responsibilities:
The Accounting Assistant is responsible for ensuring that all residential accounting functions are processed accurately, thoroughly, and timely. This position frequently communicates with other Operational Departments to ensure the smooth flow of operations. In addition, this position is responsible for the following:
- Oversees and maintains resident ledgers, to include making applicable corrections when needed
- Creates and distributes yearly tax forms such as Certificates of Rent Paid
- Receives, deposits, and enters rent payments to ledgers, including rental assistance payments from county agencies
- Creates and distributes letters to customers who are behind on payments, to include late rent letters and collections activities
- Processes account writeâ€offs
- Records and updates lease charges both at time of move in and renewal
- Processes and applies late fees to resident accounts
- Follows and maintains monthâ€end checklists
- Reviews and approves invoices utilizing available Accounts Payable software
- Communicates accurately, thoroughly, and timely with internal departments
- Assists Business Operations Specialists in identifying procedural failures and implementing possible improvements
- Complies with all Federal, State, and local regulations and ordinances
- Acts as backup or additional support for other members of the Business Operations
- Department as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education & Experience:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- 2 years in the property management industry
- Accounting certification or experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent time management skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
- Ability to demonstrate good judgment and problem solving skills
