Summary This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard Finance Center, Chesapeake, VA. This implies no promise or guarantee of a promotion. . Responsibilities You will serve as a Pathways Intern and is located in the Coast Guard Finance Center, Chesapeake, VA. The Finance Center is the world-wide finance and accounting office for the Coast Guard. The position's primary purpose is to provide developmental accounting assignments to the incumbent that involve the application of accounting principles, procedures, processes, regulations and reference material fundamental to the technical aspects of governmental accounting. Typical work assignments include: Examining a variety of financial transactions and reports for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with acceptable standards. Reviewing and processing invoices for payment. Performing a variety of assignments involving accounts receivable including billing, dunning, aging, and referral to collection agents. Performing reconciliation of general ledger control accounts and subsidiary ledgers. Research discrepancies and make necessary adjustment entries. Qualifications Basic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience or substitution of education for experience or combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. AND To qualify at the GS-04 grade level,(starting salary $35,870) if you are a current student (attending an accredited educational institution recognized by the Department of Education) and have two years of education above high school or an associate's degree. To qualify at the GS-05 grade level,(starting salary $40,432) if you are a current student (attending an accredited educational institution recognized by the Department of Education) and have two years of education above high school or an associate's degree..
