Job Summary
The Department of Social and Behavioral Science at Harris-Stowe State University is seeking an Adjunct Instructor - Psychology. A Master's Degree in Psychology is required from an accredited university. A PhD in Psychology is preferred. A strong commitment to working with undergraduates is in a minority-serving institution is a must. The ideal candidate is willing to offer courses across a general psychology program including specialized upper-level courses to prepare students for graduate and professional studies.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains course syllabi and provides each student with a written statement of course requirements at the beginning of each semester.
- Prepares and delivers lectures, leads discussions, and performs other activities which are related to and meet course requirements.
- Conducts appropriate evaluations of student's performances and assigns grades on the basis of such evaluations.
- Maintains records of student's grades and attendance according to University requirements.
- Provides access to students through regular hours and involvement on campus.
- Participates in the development and revision of course content, textbook/equipment selection, instructional materials, and teaching assignment/scheduling.
- Provides academic and career advisement and assistance to students as appropriate.
- Maintains professional skills and subject expertise through study and involvement in professional organizations.
Education and Minimum Experience
- An minimum of an earned graduate degree from an accredited higher education institution and minimum of 18 credit hour in subject field at the graduate level.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of the pedagogies of University level teaching , particularly for the first-generation students.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to exercise critical human relations skills and in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with students and University community.

- Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
- Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a signification degree

- Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment
- Very limited or no exposure to physical risk
