POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists the Adult Education Teacher with daily student learning and curriculum implementation. Identifies learning material that complies with federal and state funding guidelines. Assists with informal and formal assessment facilitation. Responsible for assisting teachers in a variety of settings, and with a variety of scheduled activities for the successful operation of the Adult Education Program. Provides assistance for students under professional guidance and supervision of teachers in the District's Adult Education Program. Reports to Adult Education Administrator.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with students individually or in small groups by providing basic instruction in abilities and skills developmentally appropriate to the student. Uses instructional strategies and techniques for facilitating the integration of all students into the academic program. Prepares and organizes materials for student learning. Uses strategies that promote students' independence for learning. Reinforces reading, writing, mathematical ideas and concepts and other skills presented by the teacher in small groups or in one-on-one settings. Assists with learning activities, review and evaluation of student work, preparation of lesson plans, and the development and implementation of classroom activities, learning tools, and curriculum support documents.
Participates in professional learning for all academic contents; supports a variety of building level, district, state and federal professional development opportunities.
Analyzes data and identifies effective instructional practices for student achievement. Works collaboratively with teachers to develop quality curriculum resources to support instruction, including instructional plans and assessments. Must be familiar with any curriculum changes in the respective content areas.
Participates in regularly scheduled District and regional meetings. Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Engages in vertical articulation of adult literacy instructional goals and objectives. Assists with implementation of a variety of student enrichment programs.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Hold an associate’s degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
OR
- Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
OR
3. Hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum of one (1) year instructional experience preferred.
Make recommendations or decisions which usually affect the entire department/school.
Requires regular, frequent communication with internal school administrative personnel.
Requires regular, frequent communication with different constituencies: external agencies, parents, community etc.
Excellent classroom management required. Excellent written and oral communication. Must possess leadership skills.
Data Entry and Microsoft Office Skills required. Applies,
recommends and implements technology to improve the effectiveness of student achievement.
NORMAL OFFICE SETTING:
Must be able to stand and walk. May be required to work a flexible schedule to include late evening and weekend duties.
Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Moderate lifting or carrying; twenty-five (25) lbs.
