The City of Oxnard's Cultural and Community Services Department is seeking a Youth and Adult Sports Supervisor to join the Cultural and Recreation Services team. The ideal candidates will have a comprehensive understanding of recreation and community services with specific experience in running and implementing diverse sports programs for both youth and adults. The ideal candidate should also have have knowledge in project and contract management while building partnerships within the community.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Develop and oversee sports programs, including schedules, events, and activities.
Provide management for recreational youth sports leagues (Flag Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Slow Pitch Softball) and adult sports (Softball and Basketball).
League play may included as many as 150 youth teams per season
Ensure that programs meet the needs and interests of participants.
Provide supervision to a minimum of two or more full time professional level analysts, along with overseeing two or more full time specialists and over 100 extra help part time employees.
Recruit, train, and manage coaches, referees, and other staff members.
Leading by working alongside staff to provide ongoing support and guidance to ensure that staff adhere to program policies and standards.
Collaborate with the Recreation Supervisor team. Partner to support and execute division-wide goals, initiatives, programs, and events.
Promote the sports programs within the community to increase participation and support.
Build relationships with local organizations and sponsors to support and enhance the programs.
Support Recreation Analyst staff in creating, planning, scheduling, marketing, and implementing successful sports and physical movement programming for the Oxnard community.
Bridge Recreation Sports programs with other CCS department programs and goals.
Implement and enforce safety procedures and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
Ensure that all activities comply with relevant regulations and standards, including those related to child protection.
Address concerns and resolve conflicts between participants, parents, and staff.
Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding schedules, expectations, and program updates.
Oversee the maintenance and scheduling of sports facilities and equipment.
Ensure that facilities are safe, clean, and properly equipped.
Manage the budget for the sports programs, including expenses related to equipment, staff, and events.
Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, preparing reports, and managing communications.
PAYROLL TITLE: Cultural and Recreation Services Supervisor
SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Supervises professional, paraprofessional and support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures. Receives general supervision and is expected to prioritize work to meet deadlines and to keep the supervisor informed of issues that would impact achievement of a deadline, organizational policy or procedure or in consideration of risk management.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This classification is distinguished from the Cultural and Recreations Services Analyst in that it provides professional planning, organizing, development and supervision of a major comprehensive recreation program.
WORK SCHEDULE: The normal workweek is Monday-Thursday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and alternate Fridays 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This position may be required to be available to work additional or alternative hours as needed to respond to workload needs. This position is not governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
