OSP Fiber - Aerial Lineman

Job Summary:
The OSP Fiber - Aerial Lineman is responsible for pulling and lashing fiber cables from utility pole to utility pole and drilling / using mounting hardware to secure the fiber cables.
Essential Functions:

- Install fiber optic cable on new and existing pole structure
- Understanding of separation and clearance regulations
- Ability to safely work aloft using climbing hooks and ladders
- Flexibility to work in multiple locations
- Ability to perform all duties of aerial maintenance and line work
- Ability to use and operate a bucket truck, whether it be in the truck or in the bucket
- Ability to make smart and safe decisions when working around high voltage power
- Ability to educate/ train employees on aerial fiber plant installation according to Nextlink standards
- Ability to take on large workloads and responsibilities with the ideas of moving up in the ranks of the Fiber Construction department
- Install and remove various anchors systems (sidewalk arms, guy guards etc.)
- Ensures all installation work is done according to Nextlink quality standards
- Assists with work overflow and maintain constant production
- Follows all company policy and procedures including safety and all training
- Knowledge and understanding of safety requirements and the use of personal protective equipment
- Understanding of emergency restoration protocols
- Ability to work aerial and underground construction when needed based off our current workload
- Ability to travel to the work, regardless of where that work is
- Ability to work a rotational travel schedule
- Ability to work in a team environment while maintaining a great and positive attitude
- Undertake pole removal, pole transfers, and set and install new underground cables
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair overhead fiber lines
- Operate hydraulic aerial lifts and ladders mounted to trucks
- Keep a detailed record of work activity
- Read and interpret engineering plans
- Ability to work at heights of 20+' feet
- Able to lift/carry 50 lbs. regularly and up to 100 lbs. as needed with or without assistance
- Other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager
Skills:
- Work with basic hand tools
- Ability to lift/pull heavy equipment
- Ability to read and understand plat drawings and build designs
- Comfortable with working in the outdoor elements through all seasons
- Must be team-oriented and safety conscious
- Must be able to pass on site testing for current position
- Must pass a drug screening test and a criminal background check
- Must be able to obtain a DOT Medical Card
- Must have or be willing to get OSHA-10 immediately when hired (company provided)
- Must have a valid Class C driver's license with a safe/acceptable driving record in compliance with company policy
- Must be able to adapt in a high-stress and fast-paced environment
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Recent construction experience working in outdoor elements through all seasons

Work Environment/Hazards:
- Working in outdoor elements such as cold, hot, precipitation, and wind
- In proximity of heavy machinery and moving vehicles
- Use of heavy machinery
- High noise level
- Use of PPE
Physical Demands:
- Stationary position for 10-12 hours a day
- Frequently moving, transporting, positioning objects of 50 pounds or more
- Going up and down in a bucket, pulling heavy lashers multiple times a day
- Frequently required to use hand and power tools
Working Hours/Days:
- Monday through Friday (possible weekends on occasion)
- Full Time
- Overtime required as needed
Travel Requirements:
- 100% travel required
- Overnight trips / stays as needed
