Job Summary

Under supervision of the OR Nurse Manager/and or Charge Nurse, the Anesthesia Technician assists in the care and preparation of the anesthesia supplies and equipment in accordance with hospital policy.
Education
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
Licenses and Certifications
- Anesthesia Tech or Surgical Tech certification preferred.
- Current BLS card.
- LA County Fire Card certification at the time of hire or within the first 30 days of employment
Experience
- 2-5 years recent (within the last three years) full time equivalent operating room experience in an acute care setting.
- Completion of an approved Anesthesia Tech or Surgical Tech training course required.
Required Skills
- Assist with intubation.
- Set up/placement of invasive lines.
- Strict adherence to AORN Standards and Infection Control practices.
- Assist in emergency situations.
- Collection and preparation of anesthesia equipment and supplies both for initial cases and for room turnover/changeover preparation.
- Set up and ensure that monitors and equipment are in good working order each day.
- Identify and report needed equipment repair.
- Participates in projects as directed by the Charge Nurse or Director.
- Order and maintenance of supplies and carts.
- Removes outdated supplies.
- Demonstrates an understanding of organizational structure and utilizes appropriate channels of communication.
- Must demonstrate knowledge/understanding of Surgical Environment: Unrestricted, Semi-restricted, and Restricted areas; positive pressure environment; air exchanges, closure of doors at all times; surgical dress code; refrigerator and fluid/blanket warmer temperatures; and protocol for out -of-range temperatures.

- Adheres to established Hospital/departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Assessment and Improvement Program, Infection Assessment and Improvement Program, legal, safety, environment control standards and Patient’s Bill of Rights.
- Must demonstrate knowledge/understanding of Infection Control; Hand washing; use of gloves and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); foam antiseptic; and decontamination of equipment prior to and after use.
- Demonstrates knowledge/understanding of electrical safety: Checks all electrical equipment for proper working condition; plugs and power cords for fraying/damage; knowledge of red outlet function/location; appropriate use of extension cords, removes damaged or non-functioning equipment immediately and contacts BioMed; and ensures all clinical alarms are audible and not disabled.
- Communicates accurately, honestly, supportively and in a timely manner with department and interdepartmental team members.
- Demonstrates effective business writing and oral communication skills, handwriting is clear and legible.
- Participates in operational aspects of the department and maintains/participates in performance improvement activities within the department.
- Participates in all departmental specific training, Environment of Care (injury/illness prevention, fire/life safety, hazardous materials, emergency preparedness, utilities management, medical equipment management, safety and security management), infection control (standard precautions, TB Exposure Control Plan, Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan).
- Demonstrates knowledge of and follows safety practices. Understands the importance of safety, including patient safety in the workplace. Maintains a safe environment for self and others.
- Actively participates in the Patient Safety Program, including event reporting.
- Identifies sentinel events/near misses and responds per defined organization processes.
- Participates in education activities and process implementation.
- Demonstrates advocacy for the patient/customer and appropriately acknowledges patients, customers, and visitors.
Salary Range: $26.62 - $35.33 per hour (DOE)
