Verdantas is a national consulting group seeking a talented Health & Safety Manager to join our team in the Dublin, Akron, or Cleveland, OH office. This position will act as the Midwest Area Safety Lead and Radiation Safety Officer.

Verdantas is a national consulting group seeking a talented Health & Safety Manager to join our team in the Dublin, Akron, or Cleveland, OH office. This position will act as the Midwest Area Safety Lead and Radiation Safety Officer.

Responsibilities:
•Onboard newly hired employees on health & safety program requirements
•Prepare and conduct new hire safety training, HAZWOPER training, first aid/CPR training, radiation safety training, and other safety training as needed
•Travel to other offices and jobsites Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee for training, and to conduct site safety assessments and incident investigation
•Administer Verdantas' health & safety program with the National Health & Safety Leader
•Provide guidance and support to Department Leaders and project personnel to ensure regulatory compliance in Verdantas’ Midwest Area (currently OH, MI, western PA, KY, TN, IN, IL, WV)
•Maintain a working understanding of general industry, and construction-related health & safety regulations (including HAZWOPER) and Verdantas' health & safety program
•Monitor and reinforce consistent compliance with Verdantas' health & safety program and client-specific requirements within Verdantas Midwest Area at jobsites through regular site safety assessments.
•Lead Verdantas' health & safety culture by example
•Support project teams in all health & safety-related matters
•Review and approve site-specific health & safety plans for non-typical projects
•Provide immediate support and guidance to workers in response to a work-related incident, injuries, or illnesses, including injury case management and workers compensation claims, and to develop and implement effective corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.
Radiation Safety Officer (RSO):
Verdantas owns and operates numerous portable soil moisture/density meters that contain small, regulated sources of radiation. Therefore, this position will be responsible to:
•Ensure that the terms and conditions of Verdantas' radioactive materials license are being met and that the information contained in the license is up to date. Includes serving as the primary point of contact with U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Ohio Department of Health.
•Ensure that the regulated equipment is secured, maintained, calibrated, and tested in accordance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
•Maintain records as required by Verdantas’ radioactive materials licenses and regulations. These records include radiation exposure records, leak test records and training certificates for all users, and other required documents
•Ensure that all regulated equipment users and transporters are trained, understand, and comply with Verdantas' radiation safety operating and emergency procedures

Qualifications:
•Minimum 10 years of experience in health & safety management within the engineering/environmental consulting and/or construction industry, ASP/CSP certification preferred, CIH a plus
•BS. in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
•Strong working understanding of OSHA construction, general industry, and HAZWOPER regulations, Understanding of MSHA regulations a plus. HAZWOPER 40-hr training and HAZWOPER Supervisor training certifications preferred
•Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills are essential to build relationships and trust at all levels from senior management to entry-level employees, as well as experience presenting to large groups in person and remotely.
•Radioactive materials license management experience (through U.S. NRC and/or Ohio Dept. of Health) preferred
•American Red Cross first aid/CPR instructor certification preferred
•Required ability to regularly travel throughout Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, western Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee (approximately 5-10 days/month) and occasional travel throughout and outside Midwest U.S.
