The Assistant Collections Manager assists in leading the Collections team to achieve key performance metrics and minimize and mitigate OCCU losses. They ensure the department operates within OCCU’s policies and procedures and adheres to all legal and regulatory requirements. This position supports loss mitigation functions including first party collections and workout loans, as well as credit reporting.
Leadership:
- Hire, schedule, develop, coach and assess assigned team members which results in a highly functioning and effective organization that results in a competitive advantage of providing best in class member service.
- Develop goals for each team member which align with organizational goals.
- Assist with general ledger (GL) reconciliation and accounting items such as 1099s.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of Fair Debt Collection, applicable laws and regulations, and OCCU policies and procedures.
- Prepare reports to monitor staff expectations, production and department volume.
- Ensure departmental procedures and processes are documented and up to date in accordance with OCCU’s standards for knowledge assets.
- Prepare and monitor employee schedules to ensure an adequate level of staffing.
- Assist with document preparation for internal and external exams and audits.
- Create and perform qualify assurance monitoring of OCCU and third-party collection activities including reviewing call recordings, loan audits, and other reviews.
- Must adhere to the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and all other regulatory standards and internal procedures.
Role Specific:
- Assist in establishing and monitoring key performance metrics to ensure service levels and operating objectives are achieved. Escalate concerns in a timely fashion.
- Actively pursue a team environment focused on goal achievement, high quality standards, high performance and excellent member experience.
- Resolve complex problems or escalations of member issues, inquiries or complaints.
- Oversee the assignment of accounts to third-party collections agencies and ensure required documentation is prepared.
- Manage and monitor member contact systems such as phone, chat and email to maximize productivity, optimize staff scheduling and deliver positive member experience.
- Proactively seek and embrace new opportunities and change involving new technologies, efficiencies and procedures, resulting in optimum production.
- Lead and facilitate team members’ continuous improvement of processes and use available resources to automate and create economies of scale when possible.

To thrive in this role, you must have:
- A minimum of two years of similar or related experience.
- Associate degree required and/or relevant experience.
An equivalent combination of experience and education that demonstrates the knowledge, skills
and abilities required for the position will be considered in lieu of the outlined requirements.
