Position and Responsibilities Overview
The Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the Corporate
Controller in directing the company's accounting operations. This role will
assist in ensuring adherence to accounting principles, practices, and
procedures, while contributing to the integrity of financial reporting and
internal controls.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support the supervision and mentoring of accounting staff, including work
allocation, training, and performance evaluation.
Assist in overseeing accounting systems and internal control procedures.
Oversee the entire financial close process, ensuring all journal entries,
reconciliations, and financial reports are completed accurately and on
time, while adhering to established deadlines. Collaborate with the
Corporate Controller and Accounting Manager in establishing and adhering to a
monthly closing schedule.
Assist in the production and distribution of monthly financials, KPIs, and
other financial reports.
Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of balance sheet accounts,
including bank reconciliations, accruals, and intercompany transactions
Support the coordination of the annual financial audit and prepare detailed
schedules for auditors.
Assist in management of property tax and sales and use tax returns.
Assist with responding to inquiries from other departments and providing
necessary financial information.
Along with Controller, aid the Presidents of Business Units in understanding
the financial position of their units.
Assist in constructing and overseeing the Annual Budget.
Support cash management and accounts payable functions when needed.
Accountability:
Accountable for timely and accurate preparation of financial data and
reporting.
Ensure compliance with company policies and financial procedures.
Support identification and communication of financial deviations to the
Corporate Controller.
Assist in resolving work problems and improving efficiency and quality of
output.
Demonstrate leadership and team-building skills, contributing to a
collaborative and motivated team environment.
Hybrid with 4 days in office per week.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting.
CPA certification (required).
7+ years of experience in accounting or financial management with increasing
responsibilities.
Prior experience in a construction accounting environment is a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Proficiency in accounting software and systems (Vista ERP system knowledge
is a plus).
Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage multiple
priorities.
