TheAssistant Corporate Controller will be responsible for overseeing the global consolidation, SEC reporting and technical accounting, and SOX compliance for Neogen Corporation. This is a highly visible leadership position, reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer. Additionally, this role will assist in other significant projects, which vary based on our business transactions and priorities (e.g., acquisitions, divestitures, new accounting policies, new types of transactions, training initiatives, financial systems support, etc.).
This role will initially be based remotely and will then work on a hybrid basis out of our Detroit office.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
Lead SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting
- Lead the preparation, review, and filing of all SEC reports (Forms 8-K, 10-Q, 10-K).
- Coordinate efforts with internal groups and external stakeholders for SEC filings.
- Review consolidated financial statements and other data for press releases.
- Evaluate impact of new accounting standards and lead their implementation.
- Advise on technical accounting matters and complex business transactions.
- Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of global accounting policies.
Lead Compliance & Controls
- Led the SOX PMO function.
- Ensure ongoing SOX compliance.
- Provide recommendations and remediation plans for control deficiencies.
Lead Consolidation and Monthly Close Process
- Develop consolidation process and systems to enable a fast and efficient monthly close.
- Lead the review of business unit balance sheets, key financial metrics, and global finance policy compliance.
- Provide consultation to our business unit finance teams related to accounting and reporting topic; be the main point of contact.
- Oversee the worldwide monthly/quarterly accounting closes.
Daily Management & Team Development
- Oversee the worldwide monthly/quarterly accounting closes.
- Develop and train accounting staff on policies and procedures.
- Recognize skill gaps of team and offer training opportunities to enhance competencies.
- Identify potential successors for key roles and develop their capabilities.
Education and Experience requires includes:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or related degree
- CPA Required
- Strong understanding and application of GAAP and SEC/financial reporting requirements including financial statements and financial statements footnotes.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience preferably with a mix of public accounting and manufacturing experience
- Strong understanding of general ledger systems and foreign currency translation
- Attention to detail and accuracy is a must.
- Ability to understand issues, demonstrate resourcefulness and pro-actively resolve problems and manage multiple projects in a timely manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent planning and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a fast paced and limited resource environment.
- Strong communication skills including providing guidance to international teams
- Experience with Prophix, Hyperion HFM and SAP
- Proficiency in Word, Excel and Power-point required.
- Self-motivated and self-directed, must have demonstrated ability to work well with people.
