Occupational Summary:
The Assistant Director for Building Systems is responsible for planning, coordinating and directing all activities required to operate, maintain and repair the electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems in the University facilities. The Assistant Director is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Critical Buildings and Systems to meet the life safety, reliability and efficiency goals by implementing and executing operation, maintenance and reliability best practices. The Assistant Director will report to the Executive Director for Building and Landscape Services and will assist with various administrative and management functions.
Role: Oversee integrated Building Systems services across the University campus, including various facilities like classrooms, research labs, athletic centers, and more.
Responsibilities:
- Manage operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Lead three maintenance shops (Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing) and their supervisors.
- Ensure compliance with work processes and key metrics.
- Stay updated on technology and practices impacting campus efficiency.
- Maintain strong relationships with union leadership and participate in HR-related negotiations.
- Develop and implement safety programs.
- Monitor and upgrade facilities to support occupants.
- Seek feedback from stakeholders and improve efficiency and performance.
- Manage supplemental contract maintenance agreements.
- Evaluate and improve work output quality and efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance and participate in strategic planning.
- Coach leaders to develop high-performing teams.

Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, mechanical engineering preferred
- 10+ years of experience in facilities management including leadership experience
- Experience working in a higher education facility, campus or larger scale setting
- Ability to schedule work, including determining staffing, equipment and material/ supply needs -Experience in a higher education setting or an environment with highly complex and critical building systems
-Experience managing in a workplace governed by a collective
bargaining agreement null
