Summary:
At The Front Climbing Club, our Assistant Gym Manager is a key member of our management team, overseeing all aspects of gym operations and the gym staff team. This role is crucial in ensuring smooth daily operations, pristine facility care, providing exceptional customer service, and supporting the gym's overall management. This includes managing staff productivity and positivity, coordinating team staffing and scheduling, implementing training and development opportunities for employees, and handling employee relations matters with care.
The ideal candidate will have a hospitality mindset and will be able to implement a customer centric focus into all aspects of their work. They will have a passion for connecting with people, creating memorable customer experiences, and fostering a positive and inclusive community.
Primary and Essential Functions
- Perform all standard gym staff duties, including managing desk operations, customer service, and cleaning tasks.
- Serve as a role model for excellent customer service, work ethic, and adherence to operational standards.
- Oversee gym staff, document performance, and provide feedback to General Managers.
- Handle escalated complaints, enforce facility rules, and address unsafe behavior.
- Complete and submit daily reports to management and stakeholders.
- Assist in recruitment, new hire orientations, and ongoing staff training.
- Schedule staff according to the staffing plan and ensure task completion.
- Monitor sales transactions, retail operations, and front desk walkthroughs.
- Identify and resolve maintenance, safety, and cleaning issues.
- Collaborate with General Managers on staff reviews, gym improvements, and planning processes.
- Support Cafe team and cafe operations where needed.
Requirements
- Previous supervisory or management experience, preferably in hospitality.
- Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent work experience acceptable.
- Minimum two years of customer service experience.
- Passion and knowledge of rock climbing, yoga, and other programming.
- Experience with Rock Gym Pro software preferred.
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
- Strong planning, time management, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate diverse teams successfully.
- Excellent member service and conflict resolution skills.
- First Aid/CPR and Utah Alcohol certifications required; proficiency in MS Office (Excel & Outlook).
Job Hazards
This position is exposed to airborne chalk, dust and cleaning supplies. Other hazards include falling while providing instruction or demonstration and trips and falls caused by obstacles on the ground such as ropes and climbing gear and slippery surfaces after they have been cleaned.
