Assistant Professor - Photography/Video - ( FAC003524 ) Organization: H0083 Art Salary Commensurate with experience Description The School of Art at the University of Houston, a Tier-One public research university, seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Photography/Video position to begin Fall 2025. The program seeks outstanding candidates working at the forefront of contemporary photography or video. The successful candidate will have an active exhibition record with the potential to achieve national and international recognition and a developing record as a teacher and mentor. They should demonstrate a commitment to creative research and production and an engagement with contemporary issues and the evolving concerns of our dynamic field. We wish to consider candidates with an expansive approach to contemporary image-based creation, from analog processes to the newest digital technologies. The successful candidate for this position will excel at teaching and mentoring students from a broad range of backgrounds. Responsibilities include teaching foundation, intermediate and advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in photography and/or video, including studio courses for majors in the candidate’s area of expertise. Program and departmental service is expected, and the teaching load is 2/3. · Passion, energy and tenacity; Applicants are also expected to be committed to: · Excellence in the arts, arts education, and arts scholarship; Required Application Documents · Cover Letter/Letter of Application QualificationsMinimum Qualifications MFA in Studio Arts is required, as is an active exhibition record or other evidence of creative practice and its critical reception. The candidate should also be able to demonstrate skills and experience teaching at the college level. Preferred Qualifications 1-2 years of college-level teaching experience beyond the Master’s degree; familiarity with art history and theory; and proficiency with foundation and advanced media software, studio lighting and equipment.
