Department Summary
The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas, distinguished as one of the few Tier One research universities designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities, and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, and urban design. The Department of Criminal Justice is committed to excellence in teaching, research and service. We focus on preparing students for professional services and advanced graduate studies with integrated teaching methods involving peers. With the use of classwork, online teaching and hands-on experiences, our department offers a unique education for students. Our department is able to provide experiences to students that enable them to undertake important issues in society. Our country has an ongoing need to address its crime problems, creating not only new challenges, but opportunities for growth and justness that our Criminal Justice majors can explore and work for.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Overview
The Department of Criminal Justice in the College of Health & Public Service invites applications for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track assistant professor. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in criminal justice. The candidate selected for this position will be expected to engage in high-quality and innovative instruction in both traditional and non-traditional formats. The ideal candidate will carry out a productive research agenda with a concentration in youth and young adult crime and have advanced methodological skills.
Minimum Qualifications
• Doctoral degree in criminal justice or a related discipline from an accredited institution;
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service;
• Evidence showing the ability to establish a strong research record and/or to attract extramural funding.
Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced quantitative skills,
• A research concentration in youth/young adult crime
