The George Mason University, Reva and Sid Dewberry Family School of Music seeks a Director of Brass artist faculty member beginning Fall 2024.
This is a full-time assistant/associate term (non-tenure track) applied artist-faculty position with appropriate salary and benefits.

About the Position:
The George Mason University, Reva and Sid Dewberry Family School of Music seeks a Director of Brass artist faculty member beginning Fall 2024.
This is a full-time assistant/associate term (non-tenure track) applied artist-faculty position with appropriate salary and benefits.
Responsibilities:
- Applied teaching of graduate and undergraduate music majors within the Dewberry School of Music on one's major instrument (horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, or tuba);
- Recruitment and retention of brass students of one's primary instrument discipline and coordination and administration of Brass area events (i.e. annual Brass Day, brass studio events, etc.);
- Recruitment of brass students across all areas of the school, including students within the areas of Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band, Jazz "Big Bands" and Combos, "Green Machine" Pep Band, and various Brass Chamber ensembles; and
- Additional teaching responsibilities include rotating topics of Brass Instrumental methods courses for music education students, brass pedagogy and literature, coaching, coordinating, and conducting small and large brass chamber music, and working collaboratively to support the Mason large ensembles.
- Terminal degree in music required;
- Distinguished record of teaching and artistry at the local and national level, including a demonstrated record of success creating and sustaining a successful performance career;
- Commitment to recruitment and developing relationships with music educators at the local, state and national level;
- Demonstrated success in working with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds;
- Demonstrated success with teaching at the college level;
- Demonstrated success with engaging the music community, recruiting, and developing exceptional programs; and
- Established reputation as a professional artist with a documented portfolio of live performances and recordings.
- Demonstrated success with teaching in the contexts of a liberal arts university;
- Demonstrated appreciation for a wide spectrum of brass music performance including classical, jazz, and contemporary/popular musical styles;
- Evidence of leadership and mentorship of adjunct applied professors in the brass area; and
- Ability to guide research for brass doctoral students.
