The University of Alabama System, located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is receiving applications for the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Human Resources. Reporting to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance & Administration, the AVC oversees and directs all Human Resources of the UA System Office and is responsible for System-shared Benefits for all Universities of the UA System (UA, UAB and UAH).
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversees day-to-day HR operations and administration of the 150-person UA System Office including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, performance management, retention, compensation and classification, employee benefits and wellness, employee relations, HR policy administration, succession planning, and a variety of HR compliance functions including Affirmative Action, ACA, FMLA and ADA.
- Responsible for system-shared benefits; chairs and coordinates system-wide benefits committee comprised of HR leaders and designees from all Universities of the UA System (UA, UAB and UAH); coordinates the collaborative and strategic efforts of the committee in developing and sustaining health and welfare benefit plans, policies, and programs targeted at retaining a competitive position among other colleges and universities; serves as the primary committee contact person for system-shared benefits and coordinates implementation efforts and for such benefits; negotiates and executes system-shared benefits contracts in compliance with Board Rule 406, works closely with the designated Benefits Consultant for the UA System in facilitating benefits program design discussions and monitoring of current benefit offerings to determine when and what benefit offerings need review for market competitiveness in overall quality, pricing and service.
- Serves as the Plan Administrator of the UA System 403(b), 457(b), 401(a), and 415(m) retirement and deferred compensation plans for UA, UAB, UAH and the UAB Hospital Management, LLC 403(b) retirement plan. Works closely with plan recordkeepers and third-party investment consultant in plan administration, including oversight of investment funds in each plan.
- Works collaboratively with university HR departments on various other HR and benefit related initiatives across the UA System.
- Assists the Compensation Committee of the Board of Trustees in overseeing executive hiring, reporting, and salary administration for positions that are subject to Board Rule 302.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- 10 years of related experience and a history of progressively responsible management and leadership experience in areas of significant, complex, and high-level responsibility in human resources and administrative operations
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree
- Career-related certifications such as SHRM and/or HRCI designations, CEBS, CPSP
- Experience in higher education
