Position Summary
The Transactional Liability Underwriting Director is responsible for defining and directing the long-term vision of the transactional liability business by collaborating with senior management and key stakeholders, ensuring alignment across the organization. The role oversees the entire transactional liability P&L, leading forecasting and budget development while implementing the M&A underwriting strategy. They foster innovation, build key relationships, and collaborate with executives to ensure underwriting business is aligned with Ryan Specialty's strategic and financial goals.

The target salary range for this position is $172,000.00 - $215,000.00 annually.
The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. Job Responsibilities:
- Defines the long-term M&A underwriting strategy for the transactional liability business, directs and oversees the comprehensive underwriting process for transactional liability business to achieve and exceed profitability targets.
- Translates the strategic vision of the executives into actionable long-term and short-term plans for the underwriting business, ensuring teams and functions are aligned across the organization.
- Ensures alignment of underwriting efforts with specific requirements of warranties & indemnity, tax & contingence insurance products, leads forecasting and annual budget development while upholding the highest standards of regulatory and ethical compliance.
- Leads agency planning and implements an effective agency strategy to drive growth for the transactional liability business.
- Champions underwriting excellence by establishing and enforcing robust risk appetite, standards and guidelines based on business sector, deal structure, jurisdiction, and indemnification obligations.
- Monitors and analyzes the performance of transactional liability products across assigned regions, identifies trends and implements targeted remediation strategies for risk selection.
- Communicates effectively with all stakeholders, clearly articulates risk assessments, underwriting decisions, and complex information to clients, producers, internal teams, and senior management.
- Positions Ryan Specialty as a thought leader and influencer in the transactional liability space, actively engages in industry discussions, publications, and forums.
- Fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, diversity, and inclusion within the transactional liability team, promotes talent acquisition, employee engagement, and performance development.
Work Experience and Education:
- • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred; Business Administration, Finance, and Risk Management preferred. Any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered.
- • 5+ years of work experience in M&A or Financial Underwriting with a Bachelor's degree or 3 years of work experience with a Master's degree.
Licenses & Certifications:
- • State P&C and/or surplus line license is required.
- • Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR), Certified Merger and Acquisition Advisor (CM&AA) a plus.
