I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

As a member of the Student Affairs Senior Staff, the Assistant Vice Provost – Administration and Operations is responsible for all business operations, special projects and continuing process improvement. Leading a professional team consisting of Student Affairs central administrative team, the Fiscal Operations teams, and Student Health Center (SHC)Business Operations, the Managing Director develops, implements, and reviews all current practices for alignment with the strategic goals of GW and Student Affairs. The Managing Director is also instrumental in aiding the Vice Provost of Student Affairs & Dean of Students (VP) in the development of goals and priorities for the unit, as well as, providing subject matter expertise in project management, business process improvement, and analytics. With oversight of a multi-million dollar budget, the Managing Director advises the VP on best practices and innovations to maximize resources and enhance services across Student Affairs.

Reporting directly and serving as a strategic advisor to the Vice Provost & Dean, the Assistant Vice Provost, Administration and Operations will be responsible for the following:

• Develops, implements, and manages all Student Affairs initiatives and special projects liaising with University leadership and partnering with the VP to advance the goals of the organization.
• Supervises the SHC Operations team, ensuring business processes, procedures, and structures align to best serve the GW student population.
• Oversees annual processes for Student Affairs, including financial planning and program review.
• Directs and aligns all business operations for Student Affairs, coordinating with finance, HR and other university departments.
• Serves as a senior adviser to the VP, conducting research, analysis, reporting, and developing strategic frameworks.
• Collaborates with unit leads on the delivery of student services and analyzing of data relating to continuing improvement processes.
• Manages all student affairs communication strategies in conjunction with External Relations. This may include overseeing written communications including presentations, speeches, news stories, web content, talking points, and correspondence by developing these materials or providing oversight to the development of these materials.
• Direct the risk management and compliance reports for the Division of Student Affairs
• Oversees the profit and loss centers within the Division to ensure revenue targets are met annually.

University Student Center Duties:

Policy and Procedure Development:

• Develop and maintain budget policies and procedures to ensure the effective use of financial resources.
• Conduct comprehensive financial analyses, including cost-benefit analysis, to support decision-making and resource allocation.

Collaboration and Leadership:

• Work with campus stakeholders to support effective budget management, financial planning, and strategic planning processes related to building usage.
• Provide leadership and direction to the student center team, fostering a culture of outstanding service, continuous improvement, and professional development.
• Collaborate with the Vice Provost to ensure accurate and consistent financial reporting, compliance with relevant audit standards, and maintaining divisional financial stability.
• In partnership with the Director of Student Center, ensure integrated budget and strategic planning processes that align the allocation of resources with the strategic initiatives and assessments.

Technology and Innovation:

• Stay current with industry trends and best practices, implementing improvements as appropriate.
• Leverage technology and innovative practices to enhance and support management and strategic planning across the division.

This position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC but may require travel across campuses. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 10 years of relevant professional experience, Master’s degree, or higher, in a relevant area of study preferred. Relevant experience must include at least 2 years of senior leadership/executive level experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Hiring Range

$104,518.79 - $181,822.55
