Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Associate Research Scientist.
The primary function of the Associate research scientist will be to conduct basic science research using molecular and cellular approaches as a member of the Psoriatic Arthritis Research team The Associate research scientist will collaborate with principal investigators and will be responsible for performing experiments as part of but not limited to our funded projects cell culture molecular biology protein chemistry flow cytometry animal models etc The Associate research scientist will liaise with collaborators on standard operating protocols shipping handling of fecal skin other human bio samples The Associate research scientist may assist with supervision of rheumatology fellows medical students and technicians In addition the incumbent will have oversight for general laboratory operations including maintenance of supply par levels maintenance of laboratory equipment and management of laboratory operations
Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of the organization rsquo;s core values and incorporates them into performance of duties
- Initiates interprets organizes executes and coordinates research assignments critical to department rsquo;s mission
- Formulates and conducts research on problems of considerable scope and complexity
- Explores subject area and defines scope and selection of problems for investigation through conceptually related studies or series of projects of lesser scope
- Makes decisions and recommendations that have an impact on scientific research activities
- Manage the operations of a lab for the principal investigator by helping supervise others Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of all instruments and laboratory facilities
- Ensures timely and accurate completion of research projects
- May provide students with technical guidance and direction in the operation of various sample preparation techniques extraction lines and equipment as well as general laboratory practices and safety protocols
- Receive and organize collaborator nbsp; nbsp;bio samples for projects as needed
- Utilize LabVantage software to track organize and maintain all bio samples
- Receiving human blood specimens and isolating DNA serum plasma and PBMCs and storing human urine processing aliquoting and storage
- Help with processing skin biopsy samples amp; synovial tissue samples in real time for storage for future studies
- Perform processing nbsp;and analysis of nbsp;biospecimen samples including PBMC serum Plasma DNA and stool isolation and FACS ELISA and other analyses of biospecimens as needed nbsp; nbsp;
- May seek grant funding from external sources in support of their independent research projects with consent of the principal investigator and the department chair May participate in writing grant proposals
- May be responsible research/lab quality control and compliance
- May develop protocol for the collection of research data including research techniques and methodologies
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of the advances in specialized fields through attendance at conferences
- May make contributions to scientific papers and serves as a resource for reports and presentations
- May coordinate the activity and experimental design between various labs scientific staff and collaborators
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
MS degree with at least 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD preferred with 3 years experience including grant writing and supervision of lab personnel and trainees Demonstrate proper English usage spelling and punctuation Possess effective communication and interpersonal skills; professional and courteous manners; demonstrate ability to interact with tact and discretion with supervisors officials employees and the general public Demonstrated ability to perform assigned duties with minimum supervision; identify problems and implement or recommend solutions Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures within limits of authority; Ability to learn and adapt to new technology relating to office practices and procedures Able to maintain confidentiality of information; pay attention to detail and work effectively despite interruptions; demonstrate ability to plan organize and prioritize work and demonstrate excellent organizational skills

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $52,649.99 - $60,949.05 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
