About the Job
We are currently seeking a full-time Pharmacy Assistant Manager, Clinical Pharmacy. The Assistant Manager will assist in the promotion and development of all clinical pharmacy programs including but not limited to: Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Neonatology, Transitions of Care, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Oncology, Cardiology, Psychiatry, and the PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency serving as the site coordinator. The assistant manager will also oversee the coordination of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for Morristown Medical Center. Additionally, the assistant manager will serve on various multidisciplinary committees throughout the organization.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates Departmental Clinical/Educational Services:
- Provides medication consultations to healthcare professionals
- Communicates clinical information to all appropriate individuals on a routine basis
- Recommends, implements, and/or monitors new or existing programs
- Ensures availability off shift for consultation
Conducts Drug Use Evaluations:
- Develops evaluation criteria and evaluates medical records to determine prescriber compliance and appropriate use of medications
- Reports findings to appropriate committees
Committee Responsibilities:
- Prepares monographs and comparative analyses for drug formulary inclusion
- Acts as a liaison between the physician staff and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
- Participates in assigned medical staff committees
Drug Monitoring Activities:
- Develops, coordinates, performs/supervises and evaluates all drug monitoring activities retrospectively
Patient Care Rounds:
- Participates in interdisciplinary patient care rounds when needed
Ensures Communication and Competency:
- Ensures that the clinical pharmacy team:
- Communicates and documents specific pharmacotherapeutic recommendations to appropriate healthcare personnel including physicians, nurses and pharmacy staff
- Alerts and educates staff regarding new and current initiatives in a timely and organized manner
- Provides communication regarding pharmaceutical issues both inside and outside of the department as needed (i.e. communication of medication shortages, backorders, changes in policies and procedures, guidelines, formulary, etc.)
- Documents clinical activities that include, but are not limited to, disease-state management, general pharmacotherapeutic monitoring, pharmacokinetic monitoring, ADEs, education, and other patient care activities
- Uses a documentation program that attaches both a clinical significance and an economic value to clinical interventions
Manufacturers Shortage:
- Works with the Lead Procurement technician for alternatives to long term back orders
- Communicates plan of action with pharmacy staff as well as with other appropriate hospital personnel
- Works with the Informatics pharmacist on IT-related issues pertaining to shortages
Documentation of Interventions:
- Works collaboratively with all hospitals across the health system on improvement and utilization of internal intervention documentation
- Encourages pharmacists to use this tool appropriately and teaches them how to properly document interventions
- Uses the intervention documentation tool to justify additional pharmacist positions by proving cost-saving initiative fulfillment
Teamwork
- Supports the departmental goals as a team player by assisting staff members and demonstrating flexibility in various roles and responsibilities
- Complies with departmental coverage guidelines
- Actively supports the Atlantic Health strategic goals
- Supports all health system communications and sharing of best practices among all campuses
