About the Job
Bachelor’s degree in physical education, Sports Management, Athletic Administration, or a related field (preferred, but not required).
Experience:
Prior experience in athletic administration, coaching, or sports management, ideally within a school setting.
Experience in managing sports teams, events, or athletic programs.
Demonstrated leadership and organizational experience, particularly in a school or youth sports environment.
Knowledge/Skills:
In-depth understanding of sports rules, regulations, and best practices for various sports at the elementary and middle school levels.
Knowledge of athletic program management, including scheduling, budget management, and resource allocation.
Familiarity with safety regulations, injury prevention, and health protocols related to student-athletes (e.g., concussion management).
Understanding of local/state athletic association rules, policies, and guidelines.
Leadership and Communication:
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide coaches, athletes, and staff.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community.
Ability to collaborate with school administration and external organizations.
Organization and Time Management:
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple teams, events, and responsibilities simultaneously.
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, especially during the sports season.
Budgeting and Resource Management:
Experience in developing and managing budgets for athletic programs, including resource allocation and fundraising efforts.
Technology Skills:
Proficiency in using technology for scheduling, communication, and data management.
Familiarity with athletic management software, online scheduling tools, and digital communication platforms.
Certifications:
First Aid and CPR certification (required or willingness to obtain).
Coaching certification or other relevant certifications in athletics or sports management (preferred).
Certification in Athletic Administration (optional, but beneficial).
Personal Traits:
Passion for promoting youth sports and physical activity.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
Commitment to promoting inclusivity, teamwork, and sportsmanship among student-athletes.
Other Qualifications:
Physical exams and background checks are required for this position.
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
Travel required locally or long-distance up to 10% of the time for athletics and work-related meetings and functions.
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Working Conditions:
Work is typically performed in an office, gymnasium, or outdoor athletic facility.
