Job Title: Athletic Trainer
Pay: $30 per hour (Part-Time)
Job Summary
The Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic health care services to student-athletes within the Accomack County Public School system. This includes injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and education. The athletic trainer works closely with coaches, administrators, and medical professionals to ensure the optimal health and well-being of student-athletes.
Essential Duties
- Evaluate and assess injuries to determine the appropriate course of treatment.
- Develop and implement individualized rehabilitation plans for injured athletes.
- Administer first aid and emergency care as needed.
- Provide athletic training coverage for practices and competitions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all student-athletes.
- Collaborate with team physicians and other healthcare providers.
- Adhere to all state and national athletic training regulations and standards.
- Educate coaches and athletes on injury prevention and care.
- Assist in the development and implementation of concussion management protocols.
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain licensure and certification.
Job Specifications, Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and meet the minimum qualifications, should be a licensed athletic trainer in the Commonwealth of Virginia and have a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current CPR and AED certification
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge of sports medicine and injury rehabilitation techniques
- Experience working with high school athletes preferred

The Athletic Trainer must be able to lift and carry equipment, assist athletes with mobility, and respond to emergency situations. The position requires standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods of time.
Work Schedule and Travel
The athletic trainer must be able to work a flexible schedule including being present for athletic events that occur in the afternoon and evening hours. Additionally, the athletic trainer must be able to travel throughout Accomack County to attend athletic events.
