About the Job
Haltom City is looking for a skilled mechanic to perform a variety of mechanic functions in Fleet Services to make sure vehicles and equipment are properly maintained in safe working condition. Inspect and troubleshoot vehicles/equipment to identify mechanical issues; perform preventative maintenance tasks; and performs other related duties as assigned. Maintain various types of equipment and vehicles including fire apparatus, police emergency vehicles, public works equipment, other city-owned vehicles and landscaping equipment. Inspect, troubleshoot and repair vehicles/equipment utilizing computerized diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical issues. Perform major and minor engine repairs on gasoline and diesel engines. Perform routine preventive maintenance to equipment and vehicles including tire repairs/replacement on tires up to 20". Responds to road calls and performs field repairs as needed. Installs and removes radios, light bars, safety devices, toolboxes, and other implements and equipment. Performs mechanical repairs; replaces, welds, and/or fabricates vehicle and equipment parts. Assists in cleaning and maintaining maintenance shop tools, equipment, and facilities. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Incentive pay for ASE certifications and for those holding a Class A CDL.
Typical Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent, and two years experience working as a mechanic; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License along with the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification and Refrigeration Handling License are required.
