Requirements
Certification from a two (2) year accredited Technical School in the field of Drafting with two (2) years of drafting experience, or High school diploma and four (4) years of drafting experience; completion of an academic year at an accredited technical school may be substituted for up to one (1) year of experience
- 2 years of AutoCAD experience
- Individual must be capable of independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data based on knowledge of the design intent as well as producing and modifying standard shipboard and shore drawings
Desired Skills
- Microsoft Office Suite: Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience working with or in the US Coast Guard
- Knowledge of Drafting Standards: Understanding of ANSI, ASME, and other relevant drafting standards
Description
- Prepares detailed drawings and plans for engineering projects, including structural, mechanical, and electrical systems
- Uses CAD software to create and modify drawings according to specifications and project requirements
- Develops 3D models and renderings for visualization and planning purposes
- Creates and maintains technical documentation, including schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals
- Ensures all drawings and documents adhere to Coast Guard standards and regulatory requirements
- Updates and revises existing drawings as needed to reflect modifications or upgrades
- Works closely with engineers, architects, and project managers to understand project scope and requirements
- Coordinates with other departments to ensure alignment and integration of designs
- Participates in project meetings to discuss progress, issues, and solutions
- Performs quality checks on drawings and designs to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations
- Assists in the development and implementation of quality control procedures for drafting processes
- Conducts site visits to gather data and perform field measurements as needed
- Supports engineers during inspections and assessments of facilities and equipment
- Assists in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues on-site
- Assists in planning and scheduling drafting activities to meet project deadlines
- Tracks and reports on the progress of drafting tasks and deliverables
- Provides technical support and expertise during the execution of projects
- Stays updated on the latest drafting techniques, software, and industry trends
- Participates in training and professional development opportunities
- Contributes to the improvement of drafting standards and practices within the organization
- Uses CAD software to generate detailed engineering drawings necessary to support engineering studies and reports including manufacturing, assembly, installation, and operation type drawings
- Prepares technical drawings including various views, sectional profiles, irregular or reverse curves, hidden lines, and small or intricate details
- Work requires use of most of the conventional drafting and CAD techniques and a working knowledge of the terms and procedures of the occupation
- Works closely with design originators, preparing drawings of unusual, complex, or original designs that require a high degree of precision
