Job Description
Bus Driver
Title: Bus Driver
Qualifications: 1. Valid drivers’ license - CDL with PS endorsement preferred
2. Current certificate or card to verify completion of bus driver training course
3. Meet health and age requirements of state and district
4. No addiction to the use of intoxicating liquor or narcotic drugs
5. Demonstrated ability, temperament and personality to fulfill job responsibilities
6. A good driving record
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Operations and Maintenance
Job Goal: To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantages from the district’s curriculum and extracurricular programs.
Performance Responsibilities
Obeys all traffic laws, rules and regulations for school buses.
Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
Maintains discipline when students are on the bus, as well as when they are loading or unloading.
Reports all undisciplined students to the appropriate principal, in writing, immediately.
Keeps assigned route bus clean, as well as spare bus used (when applicable).
Uses district-approved check sheet to check bus daily before each operation for mechanical defects.
Discharges students only at authorized stops.
Exercises responsible leadership when on school activity trips.
Transports only authorized students on proper routes of Claiborne County Public School District, along with other authorized personnel.
Reports all accidents and completes all required accident reports at once, submitting to the Assistant Superintendent of Operations and Maintenance.
Enforces all rules and regulations, codes of conduct, and safety standards.
Cooperates and displays a pleasant attitude with school personnel, parents, and students, at all times.
Promotes good public relations.
Attends all assigned meetings, conferences and workshops involving transportation.
Notifies transportation supervisor when a substitute driver is needed.
Uses good judgment and common sense.
Conforms to the district’s accepted dress code.
Substitute drivers must adhere to the same “Performance Responsibilities.”
Performs others duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Operations &Maintenance, assigned Transportation Supervisor, and the Superintendent’s designee
Terms of Employment: Ten month work year. Salary established by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on
Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
