The Office of the Chief Security Officer (OCSO) for the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) is responsible for the maintenance, care and operation of the buildings, grounds, and physical security enhancements of the U.S. Capitol Police, campus wide physical security infrastructure and an off-site campus supporting all legislative branch agencies. OCSO also manages the agency’s internal security programs and policies, including personnel suitability and badging and liaises with other partners regarding security matters.
The Background Investigator will support the AOC personnel security program by conducting federal background investigations and prepare reports of investigation in compliance with Federal Investigative Standards, laws, and agency regulations.

- Conduct federal background investigations and prepare reports of investigations in compliance with Federal Investigative Standards, laws. And other federal agency regulations.
- In accordance with agency guidelines, conduct in-person and/or phone, one-on-one subject interviews to obtain information about the individual’s background and character.
- Obtain information from a variety of personal and record sources to produce a report of investigation that contains all pertinent facts of an individual’s background and character.
- Travel may be required to conduct interviews or obtain records.
- Complete all background investigations and reports of investigation within specified timelines.
- Properly safeguarding sensitive information to include, but not limited to, Privacy Act Protected Information, Personally Identifiable Information (PII), and Classified National Security Information.
- Must be willing to travel in and around the assigned location within 30-50 miles as needed.
- Must have a current Top Secret personnel security clearance and the ability to maintain such clearance throughout the life of the contract.
- Minimum of five (5), preferably seven (7), years of investigation experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
The anticipated compensation range for this position is $84,700-$142,100. Multiple considerations are taken into account when determining the final salary/hour rate, including but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, education and certifications, relevant work experience, related skills and competencies, as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
