Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented **Bankruptcy Chapter 11 Legal Assistant** to join our dynamic legal team. This role will support bankruptcy attorneys in all aspects of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. The ideal candidate should have experience in bankruptcy law, particularly Chapter 11 cases, and be adept at handling complex administrative and legal tasks related to the restructuring process.
Key Responsibilities
- **Case Management**: Assist attorneys in managing Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases, including organizing case files, preparing legal documents, and tracking case deadlines.
- **Document Preparation**: Draft, review, and file petitions, motions, schedules, disclosure statements, and other court-related documents under the supervision of attorneys.
- **Court Filings**: File electronic court documents using the CM/ECF system and ensure compliance with court deadlines and procedures.
- **Client Communication**: Serve as a point of contact for clients, providing regular updates, responding to inquiries, and coordinating meetings with attorneys.
- **Calendar Management**: Maintain and update the attorney's calendar, scheduling court dates, client meetings, creditor meetings, and other critical appointments related to Chapter 11 cases.
- **Legal Research**: Conduct research on bankruptcy laws, court rules, and regulations pertinent to Chapter 11 cases and provide attorneys with relevant case law and updates.
- **Docket Management**: Monitor dockets, case statuses, and filing deadlines, ensuring timely submissions of necessary documents.
- **Creditors’ Meetings**: Coordinate and prepare for creditors’ meetings (341 meetings) by organizing documents and ensuring all necessary materials are in order.
- **Billing and Invoicing**: Assist in the preparation of attorney billing statements related to Chapter 11 cases, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
- **Support in Restructuring Plans**: Assist in the preparation and filing of restructuring plans, reorganization plans, and schedules.
- **File and Records Maintenance**: Maintain accurate and detailed records for all Chapter 11 cases, ensuring that all documentation is up to date and accessible.
Qualifications
- **Education**: Associate’s degree or higher in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or related field. Paralegal certification is preferred.
- **Experience**: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal, with a focus on Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases.
- **Knowledge**: Familiarity with Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, court rules, and e-filing procedures (CM/ECF).
- **Technical Skills**: Proficiency in legal case management software, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and electronic filing systems.
- **Communication Skills**: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients, attorneys, and court personnel.
- **Organizational Skills**: Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with an attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
- **Confidentiality**: Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest level of discretion and confidentiality.
Additional Skills
- Familiarity with PACER and other bankruptcy-related research tools.
- Knowledge of bankruptcy timelines, procedures, and forms.
- Experience in preparing disclosure statements, debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing documents, and reorganization plans is a plus.
