Biochemistry and Biomaterials Scientist
Can you please confirm your top 3 skills sets required?
Develop, execute and analyze biochemistry experiments
Expertise with basic bio and organic chemistry analysis methods like NMR, FTIR, HPLC, spectroscopy, fluoroscopy
Expertise in tissue assays for collagen, elastin, proteoglycan content, etc.
Can you please confirm the 3 main responsibilities/day to day activities required for this role?
Plan, execute and analyze biochemistry experiments
Work with project team to develop experimental methods
General equipment and lab maintenance
What products (if any) will this role support? Bioprosthetic heart valves and other soft tissue based products
What is your target years of experience? For BS graduates, min 2 years in an industrial setting or MS graduate with relevant skills
When do you plan to start interviewing? Starting Sept 25th
Will you be looking to hire and start ASAP or will the start date be delayed? ASAP
Will the contingent worker be working remotely or onsite, or both (if both, please confirm possible schedule)? Onsite
Position Summary:
Client is a leader in the medical device industry with a wide range of devices and therapies. This position specifically involves our tissue product portfolio like bioprosthetic heart valves and bypass grafts and provides an exciting opportunity to develop Client engineering methods and at the same time provide better products to our patients. The position is primarily on-site at Client in Minnesota; it is available for an initial period of 1 year, with the possibility of extension.
Position Responsibilities:
• Develops, executes, and analyzes biochemistry experiments to characterize unfixed and chemically fixed tissues used in heart valves
• Develops, executes, and analyzes experiments to determine the root causes that trigger calcification in tissue implants post-implantation
• Develops, executes, and analyzes experiments to characterize chemical and molecular aspects of cultured soft tissues
• Communicate results and strategies via detailed technical plans, reports, documents, and presentations
• Participate in the analysis of technical issues and the development of recommendations for project decisions and actions
Basic Qualifications:
The Basic Qualifications must be evident on the resume.
• B.S. in Chemical engineering, Biochemical engineering, Biomedical engineering or related field
• Minimum 3 years experience with chemical characterization of soft tissues
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
• An advanced degree in Chemical engineering, Biochemical engineering, Biomedical engineering or related field
• Experience with various basic chemistry & biochemistry techniques, such as spectroscopic, fluoroscopic, DSC, NMR, FTIR, HPLC, etc.
• Experience with aqueous solution-based organic synthesis
• Experience with assays to measure the water, collagen, elastin, proteoglycan content, etc. of soft tissues
• Familiarity with structural valve degeneration and tissue calcification
Physical Job Requirements:
• While performing the duties of this job, the contractor is regularly required to be independently mobile.
• The employee is also required to interact with a computer and communicate with peers and co-workers.
• Able to lift 10 pounds
• Able to view items through microscope
• Able to perform lab experiments, over extended periods of time
