HJF is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician in support of he Defense Health Agency’s (DHA) Armed Forces Medical Examiner System (AFMES) at Dover Airforce Base in Delaware. The technician helps to maintain and repair equipment used within research and clinical laboratories. This includes the ability to evaluate, install, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot and repair sophisticated/complex medical equipment and/or systems and provide training, assistance, and guidance to lower-graded technicians. Will provide subject matter expertise to Forensic toxicology, Forensic DNA, and Medical Examiner autopsy laboratories on biomedical maintenance and equipment repair. Shall function as a liaison between logistics, vendors and users.
AFMES is a Tri-Service organization, comprised of administrative S-Staff and three (3) integrated Divisions (Forensic Pathology Investigation, DoD DNA Operations, and Forensic Toxicology) whose overall mission is to provide comprehensive and innovative medico-legal services worldwide. AFMES provides mission support to the DoD in the fields of human remains identification from both current and previous conflicts; forensic toxicology; medico-legal death investigations; forensic DNA analytical services; mass- fatality specimen collection and management services; and human reference specimen collection, cataloging, archival, and retrieval repository services.

This position is contingent on contract award.
Responsibilities:
- Desired knowledge and experience in filing techniques; administrative typing; preparing and editing technical or general documentation using various software packages such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel and Windows; transcription of documents, data entry, and preparing and editing management support documentation.Keep record of system problems and issues.
- Will monitor and perform all preventative maintenance, monitor status of all medical equipment to ensure current and future mission requirements are met and forecast replacement of equipment upon completion of life expectancy.
- Will perform inspection, assembly, installation, troubleshooting, repair, calibration/verification/certification, and electrical safety testing on equipment as assigned.
- Will restore equipment operation to serviceable standards before returning it to user.
- Will perform spot checks on-site, returned commercial and depot repairs; and scheduled service performance for proper workmanship and technical quality.
- Will prepare in-house electronic form for parts and contract service requests.
- Will cross reference part number to manufacturer’s specification and ensure accuracy of cross reference and will check work order file daily.
- Will complete work orders by filling in labor time spent, parts information, and totals before completing work order in DMLSS.
- Will monitor and update DMLSS maintenance records (i.e., Maintenance Interval without (w/o) a Date Due, Equipment w/o a Maintenance Plan, Monthly Timesheets, etc.).
- Will perform scheduled Preventative Maintenance Calibration Services (PMCS) as assigned in accordance with manufacturers' literature or other technical manuals.
- Will verify equipment serial number, model number, and nomenclature on the Scheduled Services Work Order listing and records any discrepancies.
- Will open a repair work order in Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) to correct problems beyond the PMCS service.
- Will inspect for issue, all newly purchased equipment and ensure inventory is complete in accordance with purchase contract.
- Will perform technical evaluations for turn-in of equipment and applies accurate condition code in accordance with DHA Policies and directives.
- Will inspect contracted medical equipment to determine problem and accompanies vendors during on-site repairs. Will confirm final cost of each commercial service when completed and posts man-hours and labor cost to work order as work by other.
- Will accompany Radiation Survey Officer when a radiation survey is performed and ensure a copy of survey is turned into the file coordinator for inclusion in the historical maintenance files.
- Will practice and ensures shop safety at all times and keeps personally assigned tools secure and in serviceable condition.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Assigned Lead: May recommend employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate’ s degree preferred
- Minimum of 6 - 8 years’ experience required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills needed to work in a team environment.
- Practical knowledge of a wide range of technical engineering methods, principles, requirements, work techniques, and practices, and the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to diagnose and repair most equipment typically located in a medical or medical research facility.
- Familiar with regulatory guidance to include Joint Commission (JC); College of American Pathologists (CAP); Safe Medical Devices Act (SMDA); Environmental Protection Agency; and Code of Federal Regulations (i.e., 21 CFR (Laser & Ultrasounds) and 29 CFR (Safety in the Workplace).
- Ability to work independently, use sound judgment in solving problems.
- Provides technical training, assistance, and guidance to lower-graded technicians.
- Excellent record keeping ability.
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.

Licenses and Certifications
- Other professional licensures, certifications, or designations required: Certified Biomedical Technician preferred
Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Compensation
- The annual salary range for this position is $64,200-$109,200. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
