Do you love the water, boats and fixing boats (and other things) on the water? Then this job is for you!
We are a small family business operating wood-fired hot tub boat rentals on Lake Union all year round. We are looking for an experienced maintenance person to join our team. If you are flexible, adaptable, curious, and enjoy fixing things in the great outdoors, this position is for you! Boat maintenance experience is preferred.
Primary duties include:
Responsible for care and well-being of all hot tub boats to make sure they are running properly and ready to go when we have customers.
Provide maintenance repairs - on boats and on land:
- Complete boat maintenance including but not limited to: broken navigation lights, ladders, motors, controllers, fiberglass issues, and anything else that comes up.
- Complete basic maintenance repairs around the office including but not limited to: making sure the dock and boards are in good repair, fixing propane heaters and tanks, upgrading water systems as necessary.
- Develop a maintenance schedule to identify proactive repairs that can be done and/or assessments to test overall boat functionality.
- Drive boat trailer down the boat ramp into the water to haul boats out for maintenance.
- Source parts - this will be online and in-person - so expect some errand-running and pack your patience going to the various hardware stores across town.
- Responsible for monitoring and completing maintenance requests submitted by staff in our Maintenance Tracking log.
- Identify solutions and create processes and systems to maintain and fix all aspects of the boat including operational and cosmetic issues.
Ensure a safe environment - for guests and staff - at all times:
- Be aware and vigilant of any safety issues in the office and on the dock.
- Identify recurring safety issues, trouble-shoot problems, and work with staff to identify, implement and communicate solutions, as well as retraining if necessary.
Provide towing assistance - when Team Lead is unavailable or needs support:
- Respond to on-the-water customer emergencies - provide over-the-phone assistance to determine whether a tow is needed.
- Provide towing assistance to customers who are unable to return to the dock on their own
Backfill as needed crew member duties - only in cases of extreme, extreme emergency:
- Cleaning and preparing hot tub boats, changing room, and other materials for rental use.
- Providing excellent customer service, including welcoming guests, delivering safety speeches and teaching guests how to operate the hot tub boats.
- Restocking supplies and materials for hot tub boat operations, including firewood, propane, water, and fresh towels.
- Other duties as assigned!
Required education/training:
- Previous boat maintenance AND facilities maintenance experience is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Washington state boater ID card (within 2 weeks of hire).
- Washington driver’s license.
Knowledge of basic DC electrical systems.
- Previous experience driving and operating a truck with a trailer is helpful.
- General knowledge and comfort with fiberglass and gel coat is helpful.

- Knows how to use iphone, Google apps, and Microsoft Office and can use and navigate various kinds of applications (training on our specific apps will be provided).
- Able to problem solve and come up with solutions under the pressure of time constraints.
- * Previous experience using boats or watercraft is preferred.
Physical requirements:
- Must be able to work outside in any weather condition.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and safely get in/out of boats.
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs.
Schedule:
- The position will be on-site - however you will likely be required to run errands and such! Including driving company truck to get the trailer.
- Thursdays to Mondays
Compensation & benefits:
- $60,000-$80,000/yr depending on experience.
