Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic, maintaining high standards of professionalism, integrity, and reliability in all tasks.
- Independently perform bridge load rating on a variety of bridge structures for public clients at local, county, and state levels.
- Conduct detailed refinements on load rating analysis by incorporating additional research efforts and applying sound engineering judgment, considering current inspection findings and structural integrity to ensure accurate and realistic assessments.
- Plan, develop, and manage assigned bridge load rating tasks, taking technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments.
- Complete assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
- Foster and maintain relationships with individuals within and outside the organization, acting independently on technical matters related to bridge load rating projects.
- Provide mentoring, technical supervision, and technical leadership to less experienced team members, performing calculations and acting as a technical advisor.
- Occasionally perform field inspections to collect data essential for load rating analysis.
- Occasionally coordinate with the bridge design team to complete design load ratings at the inventory level, ensuring adequate design capacity.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, collaborative abilities, and a commitment to maintaining high work ethics are required.
- Proficiency in applying engineering, geometric and algebraic principles is required.
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in regular and complex bridge load rating is required.
- A bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited program in civil, or structural engineering is required; a master's degree or higher within the same area is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and MicroStation. A strong ability to develop professional engineering worksheets using Excel and Mathcad is required.
- Familiarity with bridge codes using in load ratings: AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, AASHTO LRFD Specification and AASHTO Standard Specification is required.
- Proficiency in industry-accepted engineering and bridge load rating software such as AASHTOWare BrR. Experience with 3D Finite Element Analysis software CSiBridge and/or Midas Civil is preferred.
- Engineer In Training (EIT) certification is required. Professional Engineering licensure (P.E.) is preferred.
- Successful completion of the FHWA National Highway Institute's training course 130092 Load and Resistance Factor Rating of Highway Bridges is a plus.
- Experience with bridge inspection and NHI Certification as a Team Leader is preferred.
