Responsibilities:What you'll be challenged to do:
The Cleveland and Columbus offices seek a highly motivated Structural/Bridge Engineer with 5-15 years of experience in bridge design to join our established transportation practice. This position offers the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment. In this role you will be responsible for the successful performance of structural design/analysis of bridges along with the preparation of construction plans, project specifications, and quantity/cost estimates. You will also work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects, including bridge, roadway, traffic, rail, site, and public transit. It is expected that you will function as a lead technical design engineer and/or project manager, will work independently, will supervise the work of less experienced engineers and mentor them as you help to develop their technical and inter-personal skills.
You will also have the opportunity to participate in new project pursuits, including qualifications and technical proposal preparation, Scope of Service and Fee Proposal development, and networking opportunities through professional society events.
- Prepare or preferably direct the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules and designs for bridge design projects.
- Receive instructions from Senior Project Managers as to the general results expected.
- Review project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and related specifications.
- Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
- Be responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plan preparation, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
- Show understanding of team management, develop project scope of work, estimate manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules and track project progress.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Perform as a staff advisor and consultant to technical specialty.
- Perform site inspections of existing bridges to determine conditions.
- Perform site inspections of bridge construction projects to evaluate conformance with contract plans and specifications.
Qualifications:
What you bring to our firm:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited school or university.
- Minimum of 5 years of related bridge design experience.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), and experience with engineering design packages such as AutoCAD (desirable), MicroStation and ORD (required), Staad.Pro, MathCAD, LARSA and/or other structural analysis software systems.
- Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in OH.
- No relocation assistance provided.

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:
- Masters degree (MCE / MSCE) in Structural Engineering.
- Strong background in the development of Type Study Reports and design of bridges for ODOT and other local transportation agencies.
- Familiarity with structural/bridge design process through application of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and ODOT Bridge Manual code requirements.
- Design-Build experience is a plus.
