Hiring range: $18 - $20 hourly
*Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are both required.
Overview
The building and grounds technician is responsible for cleaning, landscaping, and performing minor maintenance of residential and commercial rental properties.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- General cleaning of grounds, including trash removal and upkeep.
- Landscaping (weeding gardens, mowing, raking, and general care of all assigned properties).
- Assisting with unit turnover activities and hauling materials as needed (storage and/or waste)
- Common area maintenance and cleanliness and other similar projects as needed
- Transports files, supplies, equipment, appliances, etc. between properties and/or offices.
- Admits vendors/contractors to properties, offices, and units as needed (directed by associate director of maintenance).
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Positive attitude, self-motivated, willingness to learn and attention to detail.
- Complete fair housing training (supplied by Champlain Housing Trust) and adhere to all applicable requirements.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Some evening, weekend, or early morning hours may be required
- Commitment to CHT's membership based model of community controlled and permanently affordable housing
Competencies
- Knowledge/experience with minor property maintenance, landscaping, and grounds upkeep and related tools and techniques.
- Ability to:
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Speak effectively with customers or coworkers
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

While performing the essential duties of the job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
