The City of Oxnard's Community Development Department is seeking a Building Inspector with strong technical knowledge, interpersonal skills, a customer service orientation, and a history of effective partnerships and problem-solving to be part of the team.WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Inspect buildings during various stages of construction to ensure compliance with codes and regulations;
Enforce building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy, and fire codes;
Investigate violations and check complaints regarding building procedures;
Work closely with the Code Compliance Division and the Fire Marshal’s office;
Coordinate work with plans examiners and permit technicians;
Enforce planning and zoning regulations;
Provide information to the public regarding codes and ordinances;
Confer with owners, architects, and engineers regarding construction design;
Review records, plans, maps, specifications, and similar documents;
Utilize computer technologies during field inspection and office related activities to keep records and prepare reports.
Classification Title: Building/Construction Inspector
SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This classification is distinguished from the Code Compliance Inspector in that it is focused on inspecting building, construction and/or electrical systems and compliance with codes, specifications, safety and quality standards.
WORK SCHEDULE:
The normal work week is Monday through Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm. This position may be required to be available to work additional hours as needed to respond to workload needs and emergency situations. This position is governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.
