Minimum qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Economics or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in one or more database query language (e.g., SQL).
- Experience in Python or R, and with scientific computing.
- Experience with quantitative analytics in data engineering and data analysis.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in deploying causal inference tools to answer business questions (e.g., Difference-in-Differences, Propensity Score Models, Instrumental Variables).
- Strong familiarity and intuition around data.
About the job
As a Business Data Scientist within Economics, you will be an internal consultant working with teams across the core Google product areas. Your work will support the proliferation of economic ideas and data driven decisions across the company.
In this role, you will support the widespread use of best practices in causal inference and econometric modeling across Google. This will primarily involve translating business questions into concrete analytical solutions by deploying econometric tools as well as building and maintaining complex datasets and workflows. You'll sift through complex data, work on continuously evolving questions, and engage in empirically driven storytelling.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $127,000-$187,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Build and maintain large, organized data sets from complex, unstructured, and dynamic data sources.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to develop and test hypotheses.
- Work with teammates and business partners to develop analytical solutions to complex business problems.
